Scope

CAT B industrial fitout.

Unit 1 was newly built and a bare shell, LightPlanet were chosen to design and supply the lighting for the 50,000 SQ FT warehouse, auxiliary areas, ground floor breakout and utility areas.

Challenges

From a lighting perspective, the main challenge of this project was the amount of high level mechanical and electrical services required for the cat b application. We needed a high efficacy fitting, with enough output to achieve the correct lux levels, but also compact enough to not hinder the operation of the high-level hoses or clash with the other mechanical services.

LightPlanet Solution

For the high-level lighting, we specified a compact LED high bay. At only 600mm long, 250mm wide and 80mm deep, the fitting was a perfect space saver, and at 120 lumens/watt, we could light the whole space using only 135W per point. Lighting for inspection areas was augmented with low level task lighting, using LED vapour-proof fittings with an efficacy of 140 lumens/watt to achieve ambient levels of 500 lux average and targeted workshop areas with levels of 750 lux over vehicle engine bays.

The above efficacies, combined with individual absence/presence detection and daylight switching make Unit 1 a great example of a modern and sustainable industrial space, perfect for operating long hours with minimal impact on the environment.
